Heated Valve Head: How Techno-G Keeps the Ball Segment Valve at Dryer Temperature
Techno-G2026-10-19T19:51:58+00:00The Techno-G Ball Segment Valve is always part of the dryer unit, whether a conical or a horizontal dryer, and it operates under full vacuum or at pressures of up to 6 bar. The temperature inside the dryer has to be maintained right up to the outlet, which means the ball segment itself has to carry that temperature. That is why Techno-G offers the valve head as a heated option.
Why a heated segment matters
Some products tend to clog or crust at the outlet opening of a conical dryer or at the bottom outlet of a paddle dryer. Once such a layer has formed, it blocks the discharge the moment the valve opens. A heated segment keeps the outlet at process temperature, so the layer does not form and the product flows out freely. It also prevents condensation on the ball segment.
How the valve head is heated
Heating can be applied in two ways, depending on what suits your installation best:
- Hot water: the valve head is heated by hot water, supplied through connections on the valve housing.
- Electric heating: the valve head is heated electrically.
In both cases the segment follows the temperature of the process, so the outlet behaves like the rest of the dryer.
Going one step further
For even better protection against crusting and clogging, the Techno-G range offers the Nitrogen Purge Flange as a further option. Combined with a heated valve head, it adds a second line of defense against product build-up at the outlet.
One option in a modular range
The heated valve head is one of the options in the Techno-G modular system, alongside the nitrogen purging flange, CIP nozzles, sight glasses, inspection ports, drain openings in the valve head and coated or hard inchromised valve heads. Because the range is modular, each of these options can be integrated into any size of Ball Segment Valve.

The Techno-G Ball Segment Valve (BSV) is a versatile solution for pharmaceutical and fine chemical processes, handling a variety of solids. Ideal for vacuum dryers, reactors, and centrifuges, it serves as both an inlet and discharge valve. It handles non-free flowing, abrasive, or moist and adhesive products, providing a vacuum and pressure- tight seal. Its cGMP-compliant, corner-free design allows the ball segment to move clear of the product flow path when opened. The design minimizes dead-space in the process area and can be customized with non-DIN flange connections for most reactor vessels.

What you can expect from Techno-G
A dryer outlet that stays at process temperature and free of crust is not a detail. It decides whether a batch discharges as planned or stalls at the valve. Techno-G matches the heating option to your installation, so the valve works with the process rather than against it.
